Wordpad Plus is free on Google Play. There is no account step, no trial, and no subscription prompt on first run.
Android
- Requires: Android 7.0 or later
- Price: free to download
- Permissions: camera, only when you use the OCR scanner; storage, only for import, export and backup
- Data collected: none, as listed in the Play Store data-safety section
iOS
An iPhone version is in development. There is no App Store listing yet, and we would rather say that plainly than put a dead link on the page.
What to do first
- Open the app and create a document — no sign-in appears.
- Try the OCR button on the toolbar with any printed page nearby.
- Export the result as a PDF to see how formatting survives.
- Set up a folder or two before you have fifty documents rather than after.
Backing up
Because your documents live on the device rather than on a server, backups are yours to make. Backup and restore are built into the app — worth doing monthly, and always before you change phone. There is more on this trade-off in why offline-first note apps are worth it.
