Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-in anywhere in the app. Install it and start writing.
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes — all of it. Editing, OCR scanning, PDF export, read-aloud and search all run on the device.
Is it really free?
The app is free to download and the core word processor is free to use.
Documents and files
Where are my documents stored?
On your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server, which also means nothing is recoverable from us if the device is lost — please make backups.
How do I back up?
Use the backup option in Settings to write a backup file, and keep it somewhere other than the phone. Restore from the same screen. Do this before changing phone, and verify the restore before wiping the old device.
I deleted a document by mistake.
Check the recycle bin — deleted documents go there first.
Can I open PDF and Word files?
Yes. Use Import to bring in PDF or DOCX files. Complex layouts may not survive perfectly; text and basic formatting generally do.
OCR scanning
The recognised text has mistakes.
Accuracy depends heavily on the photo. Flatten the page, light it from the side rather than over your shoulder, hold the phone square to the page and fill the frame. Our guide to OCR covers this in detail.
Does it read handwriting?
Neat, separated handwriting often works. Joined-up cursive is unreliable — that is a limitation of OCR generally, not of this app.
Privacy and security
What data does the app collect?
None. The Google Play data-safety section lists no data collected and no data shared with third parties.
How does the PIN lock work?
You can set a PIN on individual documents so they cannot be opened without it. It protects against someone picking up your unlocked phone; it is not a substitute for device encryption and a screen lock, which you should also have on.
Edit on your computer
How does the local web editor work?
Your phone serves the documents you select to a browser on the same Wi-Fi network. You open the address it shows on your computer and edit there. Nothing goes to the internet and nothing is stored outside your phone.
It will not connect.
Both devices must be on the same network, and some public and guest Wi-Fi networks block devices from talking to each other. A phone hotspot is a reliable fallback.
