Privacy

Short version: your documents live on your phone, not on our servers. There is no account to create, and nothing you write is sent anywhere — unless you choose to use one of the AI writing tools, which is the one feature that needs to send text off the device. The app is free because it shows ads; that, and crash reporting, are set out below.

Last updated: October 2026.

We think you should be able to write something down without it quietly becoming someone else’s data. Wordpad Plus is built that way: it works offline, it never asks who you are, and what you write stays on your device by default. This policy explains how Griffin Devlab handles data in the Wordpad Plus app and on this website.

The Wordpad Plus app

Your documents

Documents, journal entries, lists, saved pages and imported files are stored in the app’s private storage on your device. They are not uploaded to us, not backed up to us, and not transmitted anywhere. We cannot read them, and we cannot recover them if you lose the device — which is why the app includes manual backup and restore.

This is the part that matters most, and it does not change. The one exception is the AI tools below, and only when you choose to use them.

AI writing tools

Version 4 adds optional AI writing tools to help you draft, edit, rewrite and improve documents. They are the only feature that sends text off your device, and they only ever do it because you asked.

  • Only what you submit is sent. The text you select and the instruction you type are what go out. Your other documents and files stay on your device and are not sent, and nothing identifying you goes with the request, because the app has no account.
  • It travels encrypted. The request goes over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to OpenAI, our AI service provider, to generate the result and return it to your device.
  • OpenAI handles what it receives under its own terms, set out in its privacy policy.
  • The result is yours. It comes back into your document, where you can keep it, edit it or throw it away.

AI features are entirely optional. You can write, edit and manage documents in Wordpad Plus without them — and if you never open one, no text leaves your phone.

What the app collects

The app has no account system and asks you for no personal details. It does include three Google services, and those collect a limited amount of data about the device and the app — never about what you write:

  • Google AdMob serves the ads that keep the app free. AdMob uses your device’s advertising ID to choose and measure ads. You can reset or delete that ID, and turn off ad personalisation, in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
  • Firebase Analytics records how the app is used in aggregate — which features get opened, how often, on what kind of device and Android version. It describes the app’s usage, not you.
  • Firebase Crashlytics sends a report when something goes wrong: device model, Android version, and where in the code the app failed. It is how bugs get found and fixed.

None of the three can see the contents of your documents. Your writing is never part of any of it.

Permissions and why they exist

  • Camera — only when you open the OCR scanner. Images are processed on the device and are not uploaded.
  • Storage and files — only when you import a file, export a PDF, or create or restore a backup.
  • Internet — for ads and the services above, and for AI requests at the moment you make one.

Sharing over your local network

When you start a sharing session, your phone serves the documents you picked to other devices on the same network. Nothing goes to the internet, and the session ends when you close it. While it is running, anyone on that network who has the address can reach those documents — so use it on networks you trust.

Read-aloud

Read-aloud uses the speech engine already installed on your Android device. If that engine is set — by you or by your device manufacturer — to use a network voice, the text being read may be processed by that engine’s provider under their policy rather than ours. Choosing an offline voice in your Android settings keeps it entirely local.

Children

Wordpad Plus is a general-purpose writing app and is not directed at children under 13.

This website

The free tools

Every tool under /tools/ runs entirely in your browser, in JavaScript on the page. Text you type or paste is never transmitted to a server, never stored and never logged. Closing the tab discards it. The AI features described above are part of the app, not of these tools.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard web-server logs — IP address, request time, page requested, browser user agent — for security and troubleshooting. They are kept for a limited period by the host and are not used to build profiles of visitors.

Cookies

This site sets no tracking or advertising cookies and includes no third-party analytics. WordPress may set a functional cookie if you leave a comment or sign in as an administrator.

Links to other sites

The app and this website link out to places we do not run — the Google Play listing, for instance. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we have no control over, and take no responsibility for, what they do with your information. It is worth reading theirs.

Your choices

  • Reset or delete your advertising ID, and turn off ad personalisation, in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads.
  • Skip the AI tools, and no text ever leaves your device.
  • Uninstalling the app removes its local storage, including your documents — back them up first if you want to keep them.
  • If you have written to us by email, that correspondence sits in an inbox and you can ask us to delete it.

Because the app holds no account and we store nothing you write, there is usually nothing for us to look up, correct or erase on request. If you think there is, ask and we will check.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top of the page changes with it. A material change to what the app collects would also be reflected in the data-safety section of the Google Play listing.
