Short version: your documents live on your iPhone or iPad, not on our servers. There is no account to create, and nothing you write is sent anywhere — unless you choose to use one of the AI writing tools, which is the one feature that needs to send text off the device. The app is free because it shows ads. There is no analytics and no crash reporting.

We think you should be able to write something down without it quietly becoming someone else’s data. Wordpad Plus is built that way: it works offline, it never asks who you are, and what you write stays on your device by default. This policy explains how we handle data in the Wordpad Plus app for iPhone and iPad.
The app
Your documents
Documents, journal entries, lists, saved pages and imported files are stored in the app’s own storage on your device. They are not uploaded to us, not backed up to us, and not transmitted anywhere. We cannot read them, and we cannot recover them if you lose the device — which is why the app includes manual backup and restore.
This is the part that matters most, and it does not change. The one exception is the AI tools below, and only when you choose to use them.
AI writing tools
The app includes optional AI writing tools to help you draft, edit, rewrite and improve documents. They are the only feature that sends text off your device, and they only ever do it because you asked.
- Only what you submit is sent. The text you select and the instruction you type are what go out. Your other documents and files stay on your device and are not sent, and nothing identifying you goes with the request, because the app has no account.
- It travels encrypted. The request goes over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to OpenAI, our AI service provider, to generate the result and return it to your device.
- OpenAI handles what it receives under its own terms, set out in its privacy policy.
- The result is yours. It comes back into your document, where you can keep it, edit it or throw it away.
AI features are entirely optional. You can write, edit and manage documents in Wordpad Plus without them — and if you never open one, no text leaves your device.
Ads, and the tracking question
The app is free because it shows ads, served by Google AdMob. That is the only third-party service in the app.
Before any app can track you across other companies’ apps and websites, iOS asks for your permission. You can decline, and you can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Ads appear either way — declining simply means they are not selected using an identifier that follows you between apps.
AdMob has its own privacy policy covering how it handles ad requests.
What the app does not collect
Worth stating plainly, because it is unusual: this app has no analytics and no crash reporting. Nothing records which features you open, how long you spend in the app, or what your document looks like when something goes wrong. There is no account system and we never ask for your name, email address or phone number.
Permissions and why they exist
- Camera — only when you open the OCR scanner. Images are processed on the device and are not uploaded.
- Local Network — only when you start a sharing session, described below. iOS asks the first time.
- Files — when you import a document, export a PDF, or save and restore a backup. You pick the file or the destination yourself each time; the app has no standing access to your files.
Sharing over your local network
When you start a sharing session, your device serves the documents you picked to other devices on the same Wi-Fi network. Nothing goes to the internet, and the session ends when you close it. While it is running, anyone on that network who has the address can reach those documents — so use it on networks you trust.
Read-aloud
Read-aloud uses the speech voices built into iOS. The text is spoken on the device and is not sent anywhere, including to us.
Children
Wordpad Plus is a general-purpose writing app and is not directed at children under 13.
This website
Every tool under /tools/ runs entirely in your browser. Text you type or paste is never transmitted to a server, never stored and never logged. Our host records standard web-server logs — IP address, request time, page requested, browser user agent — for security and troubleshooting, kept for a limited period. The site sets no tracking or advertising cookies and includes no third-party analytics.
Links to other sites
The app and this website link out to places we do not run — the App Store listing, for instance. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we have no control over, and take no responsibility for, what they do with your information. It is worth reading theirs.
Your choices
- Turn app tracking off, or back on, in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Skip the AI tools, and no text ever leaves your device.
- Withdraw local network access in Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.
- Deleting the app removes its storage, including your documents — back them up first if you want to keep them.
- If you have written to us by email, that correspondence sits in an inbox and you can ask us to delete it.
Because the app holds no account and we store nothing you write, there is usually nothing for us to look up, correct or erase on request. If you think there is, ask and we will check.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top of the page changes with it. A material change to what the app collects would also be reflected in the privacy information shown on the App Store listing.
